Atmoweld Exporter for 3D Studio Max (LightWave File Object Export): Degenerated Faces

What is Degenerated Faces?

Degenerated Faces -- these are faces that contain two (or more) vertices with the same, or almost the same coordinates.

These situations may arise, if the distance between vertices less than 0.00001 (units). Such small distances are at the limit of precision for floating point (single precision). The existence of such faces is unacceptable for professional Game Development. For degenerated faces correct calculation of normales is impossible.

Degenerated Faces Elimination in 3D Studio Max

You may eliminate degenerated faces using Vertex Weld modificator.

What are the advantages of using Atmoweld Exporter in this case? Atmoweld Exporter guarantees the absence of degenerated faces according the table of faces and vertices.

Non-planar Faces Elimination Elimination in Lightwave

  • Click Statistics and choose Polygons | By Type | Non-Planar
  • Press + for Non-Planar.
  • Now you may remove non-planar polygons using collape or merge vertices.
